The upcoming fight of Brazillian Glover Teixeira versus American Jamahal Hill will be happening this Sunday, January 22, at Rio de Janeiro’s Jeunesse Arena, as both fighters compete for the UFC Light Heavyweight belt, with OKBET odds slightly slated to the latter.
The title is vacant since Jiri Prochazka left it due to a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, it was supposed to be Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev duking it out for the belt, but it ended in a draw.
The match of Glover Teixeira versus Jamahal Hill was a quick announcement, as per UFC president Dana White. Apparently, he was disappointed with the Blachowicz vs. Ankalaev that he decided to pit the former light heavyweight champion Teixeira against Hill.
Glover is the underdog, having odds of 2.02 despite being ranked number 2 in UFC. Hill, 31, who is at number 7, is surprisingly the favorite, standing at 1.80 odds.
The Brazillian has a record of 33 wins, with eight losses, while his opponent has 11 victories, one defeat, and one no-contest.
So Why is Glover the Underdog?
First, Teixeira is already 43 and has considered retiring. He is also smaller than Hill, who stands at 193 cm.
His reach is also shorter, meaning he should be keeping his distance from his opponent, who is known to be an excellent striker.
Teixeira also came from a loss against Prochazka, who choked him in round five last June 11. His lost cost also cost him the belt.
On the other hand, Hill won three consecutive fights to earn him the right to a title bout.
But Can He Turn Things Around?
According to a Pinnacle article, there is a chance for Teixeira to beat Hill. It said that “his ground game could prove to be the difference.”
Grover’s opponent has never showcased his submission skills. Out of all his matches, Hill has yet to win a fight through submission. The former champion already had ten victories by submitting his opponents. Also, Hill’s only loss was via submission, courtesy of Paul Craig.
So if Teixeira leans on his ground skills, his odds of winning will increase, and an upset will happen at OKBET.
But to do so, Glover must shatter Hill’s takedown defense of 65%. He must also avoid the accuracy of his opponent’s strikes (52%) to retake the belt.
