Takeaways – Setting off Chaos
Before Thursday night, forward Jerami Grant was the most famous player to switch teams. He went from the Detroit Pistons to the Portland Trail Blazers. Grant will try to help Damian Lillard and the Blazers get back into the playoff picture. The Pistons got a future first-round pick and moved their second-round selection from No. 46 to No. 36.
Banchero never had a formal workout or interview with the Magic in Orlando, so it could be the second option. Then, as expected, the Oklahoma City Thunder took Gonzaga big man Chet Holmgren, and the Houston Rockets took Smith to round out the top three. The Rockets probably wanted Banchero, but Smith should still work well as sharpshooting forward to pair with Jalen Green.
The Sacramento Kings had to do something unexpected, so they took Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick, even though most predictions said that Purdue’s Jaden Ivey was the clear fourth-best player. Maybe they like Murray, or perhaps they didn’t want to pick a guard for the third year in a row with their first pick.
